I'm so pleased with how today's nails came out! The theme is inspired by a movie and my movie of choice is the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Not technically a single movie, but if you're a stickler for the rules, just pick one of 'em!
It's the Eye of Sauron!
I started out painting all of my nails yellow with China Glaze Happy Go Lucky. Then, I started working on the nail with the pupil first. I added some strokes of Zoya Myrta, Sally Hansen Insta Dri Rapid Red, and China Glaze Prey Tell around the outside of the nail to make it look like fire emanating from the middle of the eye. I painted the pointy pupil in with OPI Black Onyx. Then, I mixed a bit of Happy Go Lucky with white and painted it around the pupil.
I experimented with a few techniques for all of my nails that weren't the pupil nail, but wasn't really happy with any of them until I just extended the emanation of the eye on my 2 adjacent nails. That left me with the problem of my pinky and thumb though. I didn't want to do anything to distract from the eye so I thought it would be best to just paint them black. It matches the pupil anyway!
The brushy effect on the pointer and ring fingers was just created by putting a very small amount of polish on my nail art brush and then doing strokes outward. The polish was mostly used up at the beginning of the stroke and then once it got towards the end it would create that dry look on its own.
My original movie day idea was Space Jam, but unfortunately my design didn't pan out like I wanted. Oh well, perhaps I will try that again another day! I really am so happy with how these turned out though that I'm not too broken up about it.
Last year's inspired by a movie nails were Star Wars! You can also check out upcoming challenge prompts here.
